Finding Your Factor X – Casper Versluis

Casper Versluis is a young businessman in the church. He is a partner in three Wimpy franchises in the Gauteng area. In addition to this he took on the responsibility of leading Cornerstone’s Life Team last year.
This year he returned to the business world and has joined the Exchange team. At the latest Exchange breakfast he shared on “Finding Your Factor X”. He started by telling us that there are two purposes to finding our factor X – God’s glory and extending His Kingdom. Casper then gave us five areas in which we need to take responsibility for our Factor X:
- Identifying our gifts and abilities.
- Understanding the urgency with which these gifts are to be used.
- Recognising the privilege of our gifts and talents.
- Using them with excellence.
- Knowing that we have and use these by God’s grace alone.
Casper finished off with an encouragement to all that we have gifts and abilities and God is waiting for us to use them for His glory.
Courageous
Sunday, 3 June 2012
On Sunday night, 3 June, we screened the movie “Courageous” at Bedfordview. The event was very well attended by about 600 people. Thanks to all those who shared the evening with us, it was a resounding success.
Courageous tells the story of a man who, after a family tragedy, is deeply challenged by what it means to be a good father. Along with four friends, who are also dads, he starts to dig into what the Bible says about being a father. Through the circumstances that play out in each one’s life, they have opportunities to apply the things they have learned.
It is a moving film with clear challenges to all, but especially dads. I personally felt challenged to assess my role as a dad and compare it to what Scripture says. In many ways Christianity is about family, so the call to Biblical fathering is an important one. Dads, let’s take up the call and become the fathers God is urging us to be.
Report Back: Klopper Friday Club Jumble Sale

We had a wonderful day on Saturday at the Klopper Friday Club Jumble Sale. R6000 was raised and we made some great connections with many residents from Klopper Park and surrounding areas. We gave out flyers to all the adults who arrived, and we are expecting an increase in our numbers on Friday nights now that more parents are aware of what we are doing.
Thanks to all those who made donations and those who helped on the day. Thanks to all involved for making this such a successful event.

Kaleidoscope Women’s Conference 2012 – A Report-Back
To all you remarkable women out there…
There are certain things we experience in life that provide thought provoking encounters and get those creative juices flowing. The Kaleidoscope Women’s Conference this year was one of those encounters.
I was in the wonderful position that I had nothing to compare it with, as it is my first conference of this kind, and as such I ventured in with an open mind and open heart.
Since I came to Cornerstone just over two years ago now, I have met nothing but kind, genuine women and in fact this is one of the things that I love the most about Cornerstone – the people are welcoming and have a genuine kindness that is so often not prevalent in our friends out there in the world around us. I am not saying that they do not care; it is just that there is an integral difference in the level of honest to goodness kindness that you experience. It is what makes Cornerstone a very special place.
Listening to remarkable women speaking is not only inspiring but it allows for reflection and when one does this in the presence of the Lord, the Holy Spirit moves within us in an incredible way that He has you yearning for more of Him. On Saturday morning of the conference, me – a Christian who is not very good at public display – was guided to the front of the church where I sunk to my knees enveloped with the infilling of the Holy Spirit. It was a beautiful time!
I would like to suggest to all of the women who did not attend Kaleidoscope 2012 to download the messages and listen to their testimonies and their encouraging stories and use this as an exercise to share your own story. Not all of us can stand up and give our testimonies and some like mine are way too long and others of us may not be quite ready to share. Writing has a profound and healing effect and writing it and sharing it on the Cornerstone blog will not only allow you to unleash all the things you may have bottled inside you, but it will also allow others to receive Hope and Faith through the words of your story.
I have written down the pertinent bible verses that were mentioned during the conference and my first exercise in the weeks ahead is to look them all up, read, listen and hear God’s messages for me. I encourage you all to do the same.
